About Erfgoedplus.be
These pages in English give an introduction about Erfgoedplus.be, its concept, operation and organization. The scope of the initiative is currently only regional, so the interface and the database information itself are only available in Flemish.
What is Erfgoedplus.be?
Erfgoedplus.be ('heritage-plus') is a website with information about cultural heritage in the provinces of Limburg and Vlaams-Brabant in Belgium. The provinces of Limburg and Vlaams-Brabant and the city of Leuven collaborate with many heritage institutions: museums, church councils, libraries, local history associations, …
Erfgoedplus.be assembles information about cultural heritage in a central database. All heritage objects are described in a standardized format, including relevant links. Through these relations, Erfgoedplus.be becomes a network of heritage objects, a virtual heritage landscape where the objects emerge in their cultural historical context.
Example: a Flemish-School painting in Tongeren can be related to another work of the Flemish School kept in Sint-Truiden or Bilzen. Or heritage objects from a certain period or style can be viewed accross the boundaries of collections or locations. The interrelationships you can see on the website depend on the search entry you use (person, place, collection, object).
Out of interest, for professional use, for homework at school, for a tourist folder or a guided tour…: these are all good reasons to visit Erfgoedplus.be. You will find more than you are searching.
Two main parts: website and register
The website www.erfgoedplus.be provides public access to the collected information. Users can freely search and navigate through the database of heritage objects in an user-friendly manner.
With the Erfgoedregister ('heritage register'), the registration module of Erfgoedplus.be, institutions that do not have their own digital inventory, can describe their objects directly in the database.
